Gaszewski Jerzy, dr

About

I graduated from the Institute of English Studies of the University of Łódź in 2006, where I defended my Ph.D. in 2012. In 2016-2020 I was affiliated with the University Wrocław as a post-doc (with a FUGA 5 grant from the National Science Centre). I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of English Language and Applied Linguistics.

The main focus of my research is comparative linguistics, including various perspectives on language comparison: contrastive, areal and typological. Both my doctoral dissertation and my post-doc project dealt with comparative analyses of specific syntactic phenomena in selected languages. The scope of my interests includes also historical linguistics, cognitive linguistics, linguistic terminology, the use of modern methods in linguistic studies and psycholinguistics. Together with A. Cichosz and P. Pęzik I wrote the monograph Element Order in Old English and Old High German Translations (2016, John Benjamins). In 2009-2012 I was a member of the editorial team of Studia Indogermanica Lodziensia.

My experience with TEFL includes authorship of didactic and diagnostic materials for schools, teaching specialised language and teaching of practical English courses in the English Studies.
