The department’s research activity covers linguistic studies based on different language corpora (such as referential, specialized, parallel, historical, students’, and traditional & social media corpora) as well as computer-based analysis of language data. The corpus studies run at the department span various linguistic aspects, such as grammatical constructions, phraseology, or syntax, which are analyzed both in terms of synchronic variation and diachronic change from the Old English period to modern dialects of English. The department is part of national and international research and development projects whose aim is to set up and maintain the resources and infrastructure necessary for corpus-based comparative studies of contemporary and historical English and Polish.
