The Department of Translation Studies and Language Pedagogy was established in 2007 as the Department of the Theory and Practice of Translation. As of 2012, it became known as the Department of Translation Studies. The language pedagogy component was added in 2019, when four members of the former Unit of English Teachers Training joined the department. The change in nomenclature came with broadening the scope of research within applied linguistics.
Our staff members teach students of English philology and Translation; we also run the postgraduate vocational course in Specialised Translation. We are theoreticians and practitioners, certified translators and language teachers. Our research is chiefly in translation studies, specialised and audiovisual translation, interpreting and teacher training.
The Department runs the Tr@k Eyetracking Lab.
