dr hab. prof UŁ Jacek Tadeusz Waliński

BIO

Jacek Tadeusz Waliński, Litt.D., works as associate professor in the Institute of English Studies at the University of Łódź. He is a habilitation (D.Litt.) holder in English linguistics, which he was granted in 2014. He also holds Ph.D. in Linguistics (2001), M.A. in English Philology (1997), and M.A. in Social Pedagogy (1995). Over the past twenty years he has been working in the Institute of English Studies at the University of Lodz. His academic interests focus on interactions between language and cognition in the mental processing of socio-cultural reality. His publications include two monographs devoted to space, time, and motion in language and cognition Complementarity of Space and Time in Distance Representations (2013) and Verbs in Fictive Motion (2018), both available as open access publications from the Lodz University Press. He is an ardent supporter of applications of cognitive corpus-based linguistics in translation studies and foreign language teaching.

Education and academic degrees

2014 | D.Litt. (habilitation) in English Linguistics (Institute of English Studies), University of Łódź: Łódź, PL. The degree granted by a resolution of the Philology Faculty Council of the University of Łódź on 27 June 2014. On the basis of the monograph: Waliński, Jacek T. (2013). 2001 | PhD in Linguistics (Institute of English Studies), Faculty of Philology. PhD holder in humanities in the discipline of linguistics. The degree granted by a resolution of the Philology Faculty Council of the University of Łódź on September 28, 2001.  PhD dissertation title: Lexical Acquisition of Terminology from Comparable Corpora.

1997 | MA in English Philology (Institute of English Studies), Faculty of Philology.

1995 | MA in Pedagogy (Chair of Social Pedagogy), Faculty of Education.

Awards

2011 – the University of Łódź Rector’s Award of the 1st degree for the team authorship for the authorship of a chapter on E-learning in the academic textbook “New Ways to Language”.

2016 – the University of Łódź Rector’s Award of the 2nd degree for the team authorship for the authorship of a chapter on Translation procedures in the academic textbook “Ways to Translation”.

2019 – the University of Łódź Rector’s Award of the 2nd degree for the individual authorship for the monograph “Verbs in Fictive Motion”, ISBN: 978-83-8142-382-3.
